Virginia ‘Jinna’ Clark passed away suddenly October 19, 2022 following hospitalization for cardiac issues. She was born in Charlottesville, Virginia, lived in Athens, Greece for one year, in Chicago, Illinois for 17 years, and spent most of her life in the Decatur, Georgia area. She was the daughter of Marion T. and Virginia C. Clark. Jinna was a member of the Druid Hills High School class of 1961. Jinna took great pride in having graduated from Agnes Scott College in 1965 with a B.A. in English/Education. She earned her Master’s in Elementary Language Arts from Northeastern University in 1979, and her PhD in Higher Education and Composition from Georgia State University in 2000. She taught in Illinois and Georgia high schools and colleges, and wherever she taught, she especially reached out to the struggling students as well as non-English speakers. After her ‘official’ retirement in 2008, she volunteered at refugee organizations as an ESL instructor. Jinna extended a helping hand whenever she could, particularly to refugee causes such as the Clarkston Fugees soccer team. She was a life-long volunteer for the Democratic Party, a friend of Lois W., a tireless advocate for women, and an involved member of the American Legion as well as the Fraternal Order of Eagles. She will also be remembered for her never-ending love of travel as well as her love of art, music, literature, and crafts. Her generous spirit enhanced the lives of everyone who knew her as she served the community in so many ways.
She is survived by her daughter, Virginia ‘Ginny’ Talton Taylor (Chuck), three grandchildren: Charlotte Stürm, Christoph Taylor, and Chelsea Taylor, and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Martha Lind Clark of Athens, GA, and Anne Clark Nettles (George E. Jr.) of Macon, GA, her nieces and nephews, and cousins, and her many, many dear friends and colleagues.
