In May, he was diagnosed with an advanced stage of cancer. Even though his illness was brief and his death unexpected, he was surrounded by his family.
Randy has been in ministry for more than 50 years. He felt his calling, passion and purpose were to share Jesus. He was the head pastor for churches in Commerce, Dalton, Macon and Perry. He served as interim pastor in Duncan, South Carolina as well as Snellville, Georgia. Randy’s passion for sharing Jesus reached across the globe. He visited and educated pastors in India, Honduras, Jamaica and South Africa.
Randy’s ministry philosophy was to meet people where they are. Ministry was not just in a church but out in the marketplace. His love for sports, in partnership with his ministry philosophy, led him to be the chaplain for the Atlanta Hawks, Georgia Force Arena Football team, Tattnall Square Academy football team, and the Sunbelt Senior PGA tour. Being an avid golfer, he was more than happy to also be a player on the Sunbelt Tour. Currently, he served as a chaplain for the Gwinnett County Police Department. He loved working with the officers and assisting families in need.
To know him was to love him. His infectious personality could light up any room. His quick wit would make you laugh, and his use of analogies would help you remember. His words would encourage, support, motivate, inspire, and comfort. He was a true friend and was always available in a time of need. He loved to serve others and had a servant’s heart.
Randy will spend all of eternity in heaven worshipping and praising the Lord he wanted everyone to know about. He will also spend eternity with his parents (Carl and Doris Kennedy), grandparents, nieces, friends and countless lives that he influenced and led to Christ.
Well done thy good and faithful servant.
