Mildred Barrows Ball, age 95 of Tucker, GA died on February 15, 2024 due to complications of a recent stroke. She was born December 25, 1928 on Lookout Mountain, TN and the daughter of Edna Seagle Barrows and Irvin Hunt Barrows. She was a 1946 graduate of Central High School in Chattanooga, TN. Mildred married Howard K. Ball at the Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church on November 7, 1959. They were married for 35 years until Howard’s death on December 25, 1994.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband Howard K. Ball; her parents Edna S. Barrows and Irvin H. Barrows; her brothers, Harold L. Barrows and David E. Barrows and a baby she miscarried. She was also predeceased by her little dog, “Happy”.
During her early adulthood, Mildred relocated from Lookout Mountain, to the Atlanta, GA area and started her long banking career with the “C&S Bank”. In 1990, she retired after 29 years of service with the bank. She remained a resident of the Atlanta area for the rest of her life.
Mildred and Howard enjoyed many get away trips to their lake front property which they named “Silver Moon”.
Mildred was a long time member of The Church of the New Covenant Presbyterian Church in Doraville, GA. When the church dissolved she was welcomed by her new church family at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Tucker, GA. Several members of her church family recently came to her assisted living facility, Atria Senior Living Center in Tucker to throw her a surprise 95th birthday party.
Mildred is survived by her remaining sibling, her sister Margaret Barrows Staples (Robert) of Miami, Florida and only surviving 1st cousin, Nina Hill of Chattanooga, TN. Additional survivors include her three nieces and three nephews; Thomas Barrows (Linda), Susan Hamill (James), Robbin Zeidler (Jerry), Paul Staples (Wendy), Tammy Whitfield (Tim), and Mike Barrows. Furthermore, she is survived by numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind loyal neighbors and friends who were like family to Mildred.
We all will miss her sense of humor as well as her contagious giggles. She brought many smiles to our faces with her confident slight twitch of her head and the twinkle in her eyes.
A visitation for Mildred will be held Saturday, March 9, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Floral Hills Funeral Home & Cremation, 3150 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, GA 30084, followed by a funeral service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
