There will be a private burial service performed by Rev. Jim Landis at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery Saturday.
Mary was born to Roy and Bessie (Vance) Stockon in Lamont, Oklahoma on October 9, 1924, where she attended the local school along with her siblings.
During WWII Mary joined the war effort as a 'Rosie the Riveter,' installing tailpipe assemblies in an aircraft engine plant in Wichita, Kansas.
Five years after the war ended Mary told us she met “a handsome young Veteran of the Marine Corp called Sam” who, she said, swept her off her feet. Mary and Sam married in 1952 in California where they started a family. They later moved with their three sons to New Jersey, eventually settling in Georgia.
Mary worked for the U.S. Postal Service until her retirement in 1986. Mary and Sam loved traveling and when Sam retired a few years later they spent many happy years exploring their beloved country and touring in their RV together. They enjoyed spending winters in Texas where they enjoyed dancing and music festivals, especially Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys and Western Swing, she said, was her favorite music of all time.
Mary loved life and people and was always the life and soul of a party. She enjoyed arts and crafts, dominoes, painting, card games, and spending time with her family and friends.
Mary was a member of Harmony Grove Methodist Church,Tucker, where she had many friends who she often spoke of and enjoyed attending Bible Study and Sunday School with.
She is survived by her sons Dennis Foster; Joe, Paul and David Brancato; her daughter-in-laws Carolyn and Candy and her nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Phyllis and her brothers Burnell and Elden; her husband Salvatore (Sam) Brancato and her daughter-in-law Sandy Brancato.
