He was born in Atlanta, Georgia October 20, 1921. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 66 years, Hazel Andrews Smith, parents Harvey H. and Mattie R. Smith, brothers, Harvey, Jr., Kenneth, and Henry Smith.
Jack attended Atlanta public schools and graduated from Commercial High School in 1939 as Salutatorian of his class. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II, spending 32 months in the CBI Theater and 14 months in the ORD, Greensboro, North Carolina. He was honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant. He returned to Tucker, Georgia and was re-employed by Randall Brothers, Inc. where he worked until retirement in 1987.
He was a member of Tucker First United Methodist Church and was the last living Charter member of the Wesley Fellowship Sunday School Class.
He is survived by his children; son, John A. Smith and wife Emily, daughter, Laura A. Odom and husband Ron. And several nieces and nephews.
The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Tucker First United Methodist Church with Dr. Jim Higgins officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 at the church. Mr. Smith was laid to rest next to his wife Hazel in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
