He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Rutledge Pickett, his parents, John C. Pickett, Sr. and Willie Mae White Pickett, his son, John Douglas (Doug) Pickett and an infant brother, sisters Billie Pickett Gray and Loraine Pickett Wright.
Survivors include daughter, Sherry Pickett Shaw (Benny Shaw) of Cleveland, Tennessee, daughter-in-law, Dee Pickett of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Grandchildren Mindy Duncan (Mark Duncan), Shay Nix, Josh Nix (Amanda Nix), all of Cleveland, Tennessee, Clete Pickett (Hope Pickett) of Duluth, Georgia, Chad Pickett (Lauren Pickett) of Sandy Springs, Georgia. Great Grandchildren, Shaw Gamble, Jackson Gamble Kyleigh Nix and Tori Nix all of Cleveland, Tennessee and Dylan Pickett of Duluth, Georgia. Brother, Rick Pickett of Millen, Georgia and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was retired from the U.S. Government Post Office Department after 42 years of service. He was a member of the Mount Carmel Christian Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at Floral Hills Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am on Monday August 13, 2018 with Alec Ward officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens, Tucker.
