Dear family, 
I am reminded of Jan constantly and how she helped me change things in my life. I always enjoyed and was encouraged by our many talks. I knew her heart was one of love and compassion. Even before the most recent years with her, I remember when I was about six years old, her picking me up from occupational therapy to stay at her house with my siblings after my dad broke both his ankles. I always felt welcome with her. She was also so full of wisdom and kindness. I’m so thankful for the time I had to know her better. Tears come to my eyes when I remember all that she was ♥️

I was so sorry to hear about your mom’s departure from this world. I know she is in a much better world called Heaven. I miss greeting her on Sunday Mornings. My prayers go out to you and your family.

Jan was a loving wife and mother...devoted friend...and faithful follower of the One True God...the Lord Jesus Christ...in whose loving arms she now rests.  Through our tears, we can rejoice that she is receiving the goal of her salvation.

Jan and I shared a few classes together in high school. She has always had a sweet spirit and a quiet sense of humor. Jan was faithful to organize Shamrock class of 1971 reunions as she saw the benefit of staying in touch with friends. She continued to finalize plans for our reunion even after learning of her illness. No matter the task, she was faithful to see it through.  May her family be comforted by knowing although she will be missed, there are many lives who have been blessed by knowing Jan.

Jan  was  a  dear  and loving   friend , and  co worker  for  Christ .  Jan  and  Ron  did many  things  on  this  earth  for  Christ .  She  was   always  faithful  to  Her  God , and  Father in Heaven .  Jan  and I  shared  the  wonderful  experience  to  South Africa on a  Mission Trip, which  was  a  Trip  I  shall  always  remember .  I  would  return  there in a  heart beat.  She was full of  wisdom, spiritual  uplifting  all  the  time .  David  was  in R A 's   when I  was  Director at the  church . Ron  went  on  a  R A  Retreat  once ,  which  I  will  always  remember . This  entire  family   loved  the Lord, and  Served  Him  Well.   I  am  sure  the  Master  has  already  said , " Well  Done , my  good  and  faithful Servant "  to  Jan .   May  HIS  Word  give  peace and  Comfort to  the  Family  : John  14: 1--6.   Bob  Cooper

We will miss our sister in Christ certainly no more than she will be missed by her dear family, the family that she cared so much for and sacrificed so much for.  When we think about the section of our Lord's Sermon on the Mount where He lists eight characteristics of human behavior that will be rewarded by God, we're reminded of Jan: the humble in spirit, the meek, the merciful, the peacemakers, those who mourn, those who seek righteousness, the pure in heart, and those persecuted for Christ's sake.  Therefore, her reward is great!
Jan has left those she loved and who loved her for just a little while.  We will remember her with a smile and soon we will see her again.

I only met Jan once when my wife Cathy and I were visiting my wife's Mother T Y Flippin in nearby Decatur 2 or 3 years ago.  Seemed  a salt  of the earth lady, the kind the Reader's Digest used to feature in their "my most memorable character" series.  Jan and her husband  were both facing health and family issues which I feel guilty about for not recalling the details.  Jan and Cathy seemed  to be what I call Foxhole Buddies.    Born 2 days apart, they went through life together from K to 12.  Campfire Girls to the 
Valley Brook Baptist Church which was clearly very influential on both of their lives.  This is back in the day when we had hoods, and put the word neighbor in front.  Miss those days.

Jan was a dear sweet friend, with such a calm peaceful presence. One of my favorite pastimes growing up was to walk down to the Wood's house and jump on their trampoline.  I also remember when I was about 6 years old and my dad broke both his ankles playing softball, Jan came and picked me up from Brockett Elem. after my occupational therapy classes and took me back to her house to play with Hannah, David and my siblings. Our families also traded homeschool books and resources throughout the years. My favorite memories of Jan are the past 9 years of getting back in touch, going to the pool and church, and having many talks together. What a wonderful encouragement she was to me!

Jan will be missed by many. She was a gold friend, the kind that you never forget. We grew up in the same neighborhood and went to church and school together. She was in Girls Auxiliary with me at ValleyBrook Baptist. The Fords were a loving memory of my childhood. I’ll see you again in Heaven Jan!
