Born on December 31, 1936, in Atlanta, GA, Jane was the youngest daughter of four children to Mildred Groover & Samuel Welch Doss, Sr. As a true Atlanta native, Jane, who grew up in Little Five Points, attended Moreland Ave Elementary & was a 1955 graduate of Bass High. She married her soulmate in March 1956 at Inman Park Presbyterian, where they remained active members until the merger with Druid Hills Presbyterian and later transferred to Clairmont Presbyterian.
In 1957, they started their family with the birth of their daughter, Mary Jane, shortly afterward they moved to Decatur in 1960, where they welcomed the addition of their son, Marvin Lee, Jr. While raising their two devoted children, Jane was able to be a wonderful stay-at-home mom, always active in her children’s school activities, PTA President, Girl Scouts, and sports programs. In 1968, Jane decided to begin working for Gretchen’s Children’s Shop of Decatur, where she enjoyed helping parents and grandparents pick out beautiful attire for their little ones. After being unexpectedly widowed in 1978, Jane began working with Karafotias Realty in the early 1980s, followed by many years with RCF at the Atlanta Merchandise Mart, retiring in 1999. She always loved spending time with her friends and family, shopping, antiquing and traveling, but most of all, she loved her “babies”. Her most proud career was caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, which continued until her passing.
