Jane Cooper Haley, 85, of Stone Mountain, Georgia, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2022. She was born in Birmingham, Alabama, on June 19, 1936. She was an extraordinary mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. A lifelong Methodist, she was a member of Tucker First United Methodist Church in Tucker, Georgia, for many years.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, PZ and Levonia Cooper, and great-granddaughter, Vivian Nora Lukens. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Robert Haley; children, Don and Joy Haley of Houston, Texas, Karen and John Lukens of Lilburn, Georgia, and David Haley of Middle Grove, New York; grandchildren, David and Kjersti Lukens, Libby and Jon Bollier, Ben Haley, Sarah and Travis Reed, Madison Haley, Anna Haley, and Lauren Haley; great-grandchildren, Erik Lukens, Sullivan Bollier, and Abigail Lukens; as well as other family members and special friends.
Jane grew up in the Central Park area of Birmingham and graduated from Ensley High School, where she met the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Haley. She followed him to Auburn University (then known as API), and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Home Economics - Textiles in 1957. Bob and Jane were married on September 7, 1957. While Bob served in the Army and later worked for various Bell Telephone System companies, Jane was a master of organization, coordinating multiple family moves, raising three children, and keeping up with their multiple schedules while acting as den mother, chauffeur, chaperone, room mother, and doing anything else she could in support of her family and their numerous activities. She was in her element running the household and taking care of others. Wherever the family lived, she was an active member of the Methodist Church. She and Bob loved to travel and did so as often as possible, visiting much of the U.S. and many foreign countries with a group of close friends. Jane was the family photographer, taking pictures at every event, then putting together photo albums to remember the fun. She enjoyed making quilts, crafting cross-stitch projects, and working in her garden taking care of multiple flower beds. She also enjoyed collecting baskets and Santa Claus figures. She loved being called Mimi by her “grands” and “greats” and referred to them as her pride and joy. Jane was known for a quick smile and having a giving nature. She always made sure to tell her family and friends “I love you.”
