Mr. Hugh David Lynch Sr, 91, of Tucker, Georgia passed peacefully while receiving last rites by Monsignor Richard Lopez on Monday, April 13, 2020. He was born on May 2, 1928 in Mount Vernon, NY to Hugh George and Elizabeth Fitzgerald Lynch. A graduate of St. John’s Preparatory in Astoria, NY (where he was selected by his peers as Wittiest Senior) and GSU in Atlanta, Ga, he was also an Air Force veteran from the Korean Conflict and a lifelong employee of Bell South. He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Catherine Baugnon Lynch of Tucker, GA. Survivors include Hugh David Lynch Jr (Carol) of Metairie, LA; Patricia Lynch DeWitt (Stephen) of Brookhaven, GA; John Andrew Lynch (Vicki) of Wildwood, NJ; and, Louis Charles Lynch of Tucker, GA. A graveside service was presided by Monsignor Lopez and attended by all of his children on Friday, April 17, at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Tucker, Georgia. Other survivors include 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Mr. Lynch was an active volunteer at The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, where he served in many roles including sacristan, collections counter, and Meals on Wheels coordinator. As a member of the leadership team for the Center for Positive Aging, he was nationally recognized by Shepherd’s Centers of America for his volunteerism helping “frail older adults that struggle to remain living independently on small fixed incomes.” Additionally Hugh served as Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Council 660, and as a District Deputy; president of the Bell South Pioneers; many support organizations for his children during their educational years such as PTA and Boy Scouts; and a dedicated volunteer tax counselor for senior citizens.
