Dorothy Bailey Staton died on Saturday March 17, 2012 after a short but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Toombs County, Georgia in 1931, she soon moved with her family to East Atlanta and attended Girls High (later re-named Murphy High during her sophomore year). She was a two year “Letterman” in basketball.
Ahead of her time, she moved to Dallas to work as a dance instructor with the Arthur Murray Dance Studio as they expanded their business westward to Texas. Later, she was married to Texas native, EJ Staton and raised two children who love her dearly. Always selfless, she was a champion for her children and was always there with a kind word or a well-placed hug. She was everything that a mother should be or could be.
An avid songstress, tennis player and bowler, she will be missed as a choir-mate and teammate. She sang with the Song of Atlanta chapter of the Sweet Adelines for years. A great friend to everyone, she was also a member of the Tucker First United Methodist Church, its Worship Choir and the Joyful Noise Ringers Bell Choir. Since leaving us, she has already taken her place singing with the angels in Heaven.
She was a sister, a wife, a mother, a singer and thespian, a bowler, a tennis player and a child of God. She is survived by her two adoring children, Sandy Parker and Randy Staton along with Sandy’s husband Rodney and their daughter, Taylor, Erin and Amanda, and Randy’s wife Donna and their daughter, Rachel. She is also survived by her two brothers, Mercer and John Bailey and their families. Her absence is mourned by them, but they celebrate her life and and ask that you do too, for she is now in Heaven in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Her family will hold a Memorial Service at Tucker First United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you generously make a donation to the American Cancer Society.
