Dorothy Virginia Griffin

To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Virginia Griffin fulfilled her earthly mission and was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on August 16, 2020. She was born on August 22, 1935 in Valdosta, Ga., the only child of Doris and Kinsey Griffin. From humble beginnings she grew up strong and self-confident with the will and determination to accomplish the things that needed to be done. After graduating high school, where she was a member of the Home Economics Club and the Marching Band, she worked for 10 years as an Administrative Assistant for the Life Insurance Company of Georgia followed by a short period as a civilian employee for the United States Air Force. Then this young single lady from a small-town in South Georgia determined that her mission in life was much greater and it was time to strut her stuff. So (against the advice of her parents) she moved to the big city of Atlanta to join the Internal Revenue Service.

Those of us who knew and loved her may have wondered from time to time, but Virginia never had any doubt as to exactly what her earthly mission was. Family always came first and foremost with Virginia. She never failed to show her love to any puppy or kitten that crossed her path. She showered love on every small child within her reach. She admired every flower she ever saw, but her greatest pleasure in life was visiting and helping and serving her friends. And she had a lot of friends. She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star for 60 years, and was active in the United Methodist Church for over 75 years. Her hobby was cooking, whether it be a plate of cookies for a child, a pie for a neighbor, a cake for a sick friend, a meal for a grieving family, or a group dinner for a church function. She was always generous with her time, her talents and her gifts, never expecting anything in return beyond a simple “Thank You”.
