passed away at the age of 94 on October 10, 2022, at his home in Atlanta, with family and loving caregivers present.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Bess Timmerman. Don is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Richard Bryant, and son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Vicki Timmerman. He has four grandchildren, Kendra Moore, Brittany Barrington, Dustin Bryant, and Kelsey Bryant. He has 5 great grandsons Liam and Brayden Moore, Leo Barrington, and Theodoor and Sebastiaan Bryant. After the arrival of the 5th one he always said one more and he would “have a team”. He is also survived by several beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Don was born on April 24,1928 in Augusta, Georgia to Drue and Leila Timmerman. He graduated from Richmond Academy High School. He enlisted in the US Navy Reserve in 1947and retired as a Lieutenant Commander in 1988. He graduated with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering at Clemson University in 1950, and continued his education in graduate work at Georgia Tech. He and Bess moved from Pickens South Carolina to Atlanta Ga, where he began his career as an electrical engineer working for GM, Womack Electric, Western Electric, ATT and ultimately retiring from Lucent Technologies in 1991.
He was a charter member of Wieuca Baptist Church in Atlanta, where he taught a Sunday school class for many years and was also an ordained deacon.
Don was passionate about history and thoroughly enjoyed discussing it with others. He and Bess shared a love of travel, and they visited most of the United States as well as many other countries together. He was always eager to share stories of their wonderful adventures and places they had explored.
Don’s life will be celebrated on October 29, 2022, at 11:00. The Memorial Service will be held at the chapel at Floral Hills followed by a graveside service at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
