Cynthia Agatha Allen, née Lalor, of Stone Mountain, GA passed away at age 88 on May 6 due to complications from a stroke. She is survived by her brothers Lushington "Dandy" and Edward , her three devoted children - Ralph, Sharon, and Angela - and her four loving grandchildren - Chelsea, Vance, Jamal, and Solange.
Born to Charles and Ethelmin "Ettie" Lalor on October 7, 1933 in Kingston, Jamaica, Cynthia moved to Panama in her early teens to live with her maternal aunt, Lillian. In Panama, she met and married Ralph Lloyd Allen and together they immigrated to Brooklyn, NY in search of a better life for their growing family. The majority of Cynthia's life was spent in Atlanta, GA where she worked as a nurse at Emory Healthcare, Grady Hospital, and Dekalb County Jail, among other facilities. Cynthia was a devoted adherent to the Baha'i Faith, serving as a member of the Spiritual Assembly of the Baha'is of South Dekalb and as a pioneer to Ecuador, Panama, and Sarasota, FL. She was a faithful, prayerful woman who found joy serving those in need and overlooked the faults of others to see only the good.
A memorial service will be held at the South Dekalb Baha'i Unity Center on Monday, May 9 at 4pm. Burial services will be held at Floral Hills Memory Garden, 3000 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, GA 30084 on Tuesday, May 10 at 3pm. All are welcome.
