He grew up in Orlando, Florida and graduated from Boone High school in 1959. He was a star football player and helped his high school make it to two state championships. After high school he joined the Navy and was honorably discharged in 1960 for health reasons. He obtained an Associate Degree from Polk Jr College in 1969. He was a detail engineer in the telecommunication industry and worked for AT&T and ADC for a combined 49 years.
In 1963 Al married Glori Rogers. They moved to Stone Mountain, GA and became founding members of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. In 1985 he became a widower.
Al remarried for 19 years to Sandra Dalton. He served as a loving stepfather to Melissa, Nandy, and Joey Dalton. He was also known as Uncle Al to Mike Franklin and Amanda Prince.
Al is survived by his one sibling, Jerry Rogers. He was a caring uncle to Jerry’s two sons, Justin and Sonny Rogers, and a great uncle to their children.
He is survived by his two sons, Michael; wife Rebecca, and Patrick; wife Audrey Rogers, and his 5 grandsons Sage, Gabriel, Matthew, Elijah, and Ezekiel Rogers.
Al was a kind and gentle man. He was a loving father and grandfather. He cherished his time with family and friends. He served as an example of a loving parent and grandparent to many children who were not his own. In his later years, he divided time between Virginia and Atlanta, spending as much time as he could with family.
