Billy Lee Harrell, age 89, of Atlanta, Georgia passed away on Friday, September 9, 2022, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's while in hospice care. He was a current resident at the Fountainview Center for Alzheimer’s Disease. His body was cremated.
Billy was born November 18, 1932, in Humboldt, TN to Gustie Hall and Ewel Martin Harrell. He lived and attended school in Milan, TN. He graduated from Murray State University with an Accounting degree in 1951. He was drafted and served in the Korean War for 4 years. He moved to Atlanta, GA and became an Eastern Airlines ticket reservationist. After his retirement, he became a Bellhop for a hotel driving customers around. He met his wife Elizabeth Ammons Light through a church Singles group, and they were married on April 8, 1967. They had 2 daughters, Elizabeth Hall & Kimberly Ann.
He was an active member at Emory Presbyterian Church in Decatur with the usher guild, food pantry, Sunday School envelope collection, taking the elderly ladies grocery shopping weekly, and helping wherever needed. His generous spirit was evident in the small gifts / magazines/ books he would leave for his friends at home or on their windshield. He enjoyed eating out, watching the “Andy Griffith” and “Three Stooges” television shows. His appreciative spirit always was evident with his “Thank you” and “Thank you for taking such great care of me.” He never met a stranger. He will be missed.
He is predeceased by his brother Gilbert and his parents Gustie & Ewel. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, his daughters, and countless friends. The family wants to thank Fountainview staff for their excellent care for the last 3+ years.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Emory Presbyterian Church - 1886 N Decatur Road, Atlanta GA 30307 where Billy was a member or to the Alzheimer's Association .
