Thomas L. Clement, age 69, of Grawn, formerly of Sault Ste. Marie, passed away peacefully at home Friday, November 29, 2013. He was born November 16, 1944 in Sault Ste. Marie to Leonard and Margaret (Woodgate) Clement.
After high school, Tom enlisted in the US Navy and served his country during Vietnam. While in the service he was a part of the Seabees and helped with road construction in Vietnam.
Tom married Violet Mae (Homminga) Gates on May 21, 1989 in Sault Ste. Marie. Tom was an excellent mechanic and could fix anything on a car. If there was ever a person in need of help, he dropped everything to help out. He was kind and generous with his time and talents. Tom was a member at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
Tom will be greatly missed by his wife Violet, son Richard Clement of Indianapolis; 4 stepchildren: Gerald Gates of Saulte Ste. Marie, Paul Gates of Interlochen, Larry Gates of Cedar, and Louie (Celia) Gates of Traverse City; brothers Paul and Jerry Clement and a sister Mary Ann.
Besides his parents, Tom was preceded in death by brothers Larry and Frank Clement, and 2 step children: Elsie Mae and John Gates.
A Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be held Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at 11 am at St. Patrick Catholic Church. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, also at the church.
Burial will take place at Holy Name Cemetery in Sault Ste. Marie in the spring.
Memorial contributions in Tom’s name may be directed to the family to assist with funeral expenses.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City.
