Theodore L. Phelps, age 93, of Cedar, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Munson Hospice House with his family by his side. He was born February 13, 1924, in Saginaw to Leroy and Ezaleah (Berry) Phelps. Theodore married the love of his life, Dorothy Timerson, on June 28, 1947, in Redford, Michigan. Together, they would raise four daughters.
At the age of 17, Theodore enlisted in the US Marines and served his country during WWII. He spent time in Okinawa working as a Tech Sargent. After his honorable discharge, Theodore returned home and worked for eight years for the Detroit Fire Department. He then went to work for Ford Motor Company as a Boiler Operator for 23 years. Theodore also worked for the VA Hospital in Allen Park for several years. In his spare time, Theodore enjoyed music, gemology, tinkering with cars, boating, and reading.
He will be greatly missed by his four daughters: Diane Elaine (Timothy) Anest of Redford, Bonnie Lee Davio of Traverse City, Barbara Lynn White of Lake Ann, and Hally Susan (Barry) Ryan of Ada; 2 grandsons: Brian Theodore Davio and Jason Timothy Anest. Besides his parents, Theodore was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy, and brother: Keith Phelps.
A memorial service was held Sunday, March 19, 2017 at 1 p.m., at the Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City. Family greeted friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions in Theodore’s name were directed to the Cherryland Humane Society.
Arrangements were entrusted to Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City.
