Ralph was born on May 6, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan to John and Hazel (Miller) Hunt. He spent his childhood in Detroit, and graduated from Northwestern High School in 1942. Immediately after graduating, he enlisted in the US Army and served overseas in the Philippines and Japan during WWII. He served 4 years active duty and continued in the Army Reserves for another ten years.
On October 4, 1944 he married his high school sweetheart, Iora (Victor), making their home in Detroit. Iora preceded him in death in 2011. Ralph was employed with Equifax for 13 years, but spent most of his employment with Independent Life and Accident Insurance Company, retiring in 1984. Shortly after, he moved to Elk Rapids until just recently when he went to live at Samaritas Senior Living Center in Williamsburg, MI.
Active in the Elk Rapids community, Ralph was a volunteer with the EMS, acting as an EMT First-Responder from 1985-1995. He also played softball on the men’s senior team, enjoyed volleyball, hunting and fishing, and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Elk Rapids. First and foremost, Ralph was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Ralph is survived by his children Jay (Kathy) Hunt and Iora (Valdor) Haglund, grandchildren; David (Susan) Hunt, Leslie (Scott) Loewe, Brian Hunt, Lars (Nicole) Haglund and Kirsten Haglund. Also, surviving are 6 great-grandchildren; Elle, Vivian, Georgina, Maxwell, Duke and Jacob.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Samaritas Senior Living Center Chapel, 4354 Mt. Hope Rd., Williamsburg, with military honors to follow.
