Mary Ann Bartz was born on September 20,1936 in Hannah to John and Cleota Steinebach. Mary passed away peacefully with her husband by her side at the Grand Traverse Pavilions on Sunday, May 26th, she was 82.
Mary attended St. Mary’s of Hannah where she fell in love with Henry Bartz and married on April 3rd 1954. They bought the family farm and lived in a big farm house. She was famous for her roast beef dinners and homemade strawberry shortcake. Holidays were meals meant for a king. She took pride keeping the farmhouse immaculate. Mary had various jobs outside the farm. In her mother’s final years, Mary cared for her; even working at the nursing home to be that much closer. Later she worked 10 years at Sears. She took up hunting deer in her 50’s and loved it.
In the greatest tragedy of her life, her first born, Thomas, would live in this world only 18 months. Mary raised Greg (Mary Beth) Bartz, Rebecca (Joe) Young, Kevin (Cindy) Bartz and Pam (Steve) Bredahl. She was blessed with 7 grandchildren, Jonathan, Rachel, Maggie, Tom, Allison, Alyssa and Matt. She was also survived by her brother, Dan Steinebach and sister-in-law, Kay Rancour.
