He graduated from Mesick High School in 1962 and went on to become a tool and die tradesman, working in the industry for 42 years. He met his wife, Martha LaBonte, on a blind date, and two years later on Nov. 26, 1966 they were married. Gary and Martha lived in Traverse City for the first two years of their marriage and then moved out to Martha's family farm in Lake Leelanau, where they raised their family. They moved back to Traverse City just one year ago.
Gary was known as a kind and gentle soul who was even-keeled, rarely ever getting angry. He and Martha were a perfect balance for each other. Gary always went out of his way to do anything for anyone (almost to a fault), never expecting anything in return. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to experience his kindness.
Gary is survived by his wife of 50 years, Martha; his children, Richard (Catherine) Belanger-Neddo, Duane "Dewy" (Melody) Everett-Neddo, Diane Turner and her partner, J.R. Wilson, Bob (Michele) Neddo and Christopher Neddo; six grandchildren, Vincent Belanger, Samantha Turner, Jonathan Turner, Lindsey Neddo, Lillian Neddo and Robert J. Neddo; two great-grandchildren, Giovanni Turner and Genevieve Turner; brothers, Ted and Ron (Kathleen) Neddo; brother-in-law, Mike Steffens; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Gary was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Caroline (Densel) Hoseit; sister, Rosie Steffens; brother, John (Laura) Neddo; sister, Helen (Eugene) Egeler; and sister-in law, Donna Neddo.
A memorial service was planned for Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 1 p.m., with visitation starting at 11 a.m., at Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City. A luncheon was planned immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gary's memory to Cedar Fire Department or Mass Intentions at St. Francis Catholic Church in Traverse City. Arrangements were entrusted to Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City.
