Evangeline Marie Krietz Zimmerman 101, died on February 12, 2010, only to be escorted by Angels to meet her Heavenly Father. Evangeline “Van” was born on November 17, 1908 to John and Hattie Krietz in Traverse City. She was a 1927 St. Francis graduate and was recently honored by the School and Church on her 100th birthday. After receiving her teaching degree from Ypsilanti College, she taught school locally. Her other employment included working as a buyer for Millikens and also Fox Jewelers. Van was a long time member of St. Francis parish, the Lone Tree Women’s Club, and Guton Club. She was married for over 50 years to husband Irvin, who preceded her in death, as well as sons; Richard “Dick” and Alvin. Countless memories, stories, adventures and of course her patented “Fast kisses” will be remembered and cherished by her family and friends. Van is survived by her sister, Mildred (Jim) Wirt of Flint and grandchildren; Jim (Linda) Zimmerman of Prescott AZ, Teresa (martin) Ryan of Sutter Creek CA, Irvin (Birgit) Zimmerman of Reno NV, Van Marie Zimmerman of Reno NV, Eric (Natalie) Zimmerman of LasVegas NV, Bill Zimmerman of Kodiak AL, Debbie (Mike) Whitten of Traverse City, Lisa (john) Wise of Homer AL, Lori (Greg) Gilbert of Traverse City, Sheri (Peter) Skribanek of Traverse City, and Mark (Alena) Zimmerman of Traverse City, Seventeen Great Grandchildren , and three Great-great Grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday February 18, 2010 at 1:00 pm from St. Francis Catholic Church with Fr. Kenneth Stachnik officiating. Visitation will take place at the Church from 11:00am until the time of Mass. Burial will take place in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. The Family would like to thank the staff of Boardman Lake Glens Highlander for the care and comfort given to Van during her 7 year stay at her assisted living home. Memorial donations may be given in Van’s name to St. Francis Catholic Church or the Carmelite Monastery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home, Traverse City.
