David C. Mackinder of Traverse City died suddenly on Sunday April 10, 2011 at his home. He was born in Ypsilanti Michigan on September 15, 1960. David graduated from Troy High School. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in Granada, assigned to the 82 Airborne as a Paramedic. David graduated from Oakland University with his BA, MA and Specialist Degrees. He was on the Board of Trustees at Oakland University and a recipient of the Martin Luther King keeper of the Dream Award sponsored by General Motors Corporation. David is survived and is the beloved father of Jessica Mackinder of Studio City, CA and David Mackinder of Livonia, MI., dear son of Sharon and Bob Stoll of Rapid City and loving brother of John (Asa) Stoll of Chicago and Elizabeth Mackinder of Traverse City, along with his nieces Clare Sorace, Anzu Stoll, Saya Stoll, two aunts, an uncle, and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, and Brother-in-law Doug Sorace.
Visitation will take place on Sunday April 17, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Covell Funeral Home, 232 E. State St, Traverse City, where a Rosary will be said at 7PM. Mass from the Order of Christian Funeral s will be 11:00 AM on Monday April 18, 2011, with additional visitation one hour prior, at St. Francis Catholic Church, 1025 S. Union, Traverse City, with Rev. Kenneth Stachnik presiding. Burial will take place in Oakwood Catholic Cemetery, with full Military honors. Memorials may be given in David’s name to Spinal cord Research. Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Homes, Traverse City.
