She was born August 2, 1935 in Jeannette, PA to Foster and Evelyn (Kelly) Steiner.
Carolyn recalled a happy childhood, which included bicycle trips with girlfriends to Bushy Run Park. As a teen, she enjoyed swimming at Oakford Park where she would meet her future husband, Fred. During high school, she worked at Gillespie’s Department Store. She worked at the school newspaper and was involved with the Etta Kette Club where students learned proper etiquette. After graduating, she worked at Glass City Bank and as a secretary for the Elliot Company.
On March 23rd, 1957, after a 7-year courtship, Carolyn married Fred Roscher. They moved to Germany where Fred served in the U.S. Army. After returning to the States, they had a son, Jon and daughter, Kelly who kept them busy. The “Bickersons”, as their friends lovingly referred to Carolyn and Fred, called many places home due to Fred’s work with GM. They lived in Baltimore, MD, Bay Village, OH, Troy, MI, and in retirement Pinehurst, NC, Tellico Village, TN, and Traverse City, MI. Carolyn had a knack for making new friends easily while keeping in touch with old ones.
Carolyn enjoyed learning piano, singing popular tunes, playing cards with friends, golfing, and reading. Garage sale-ing and antiquing were a favorite pastime. As an excellent cook, she passed her talent on to both of her children. They loved her crab cakes.
She was very proud of her children who brought so much joy to her life. Jon went on to culinary school and opened Za’s restaurant in Tahoe City, CA. Kelly earned a Master’s degree in physical education and teaches in Traverse City, MI.
Carolyn will be forever loved by her husband, Fred Roscher of 58 years, son Jon Roscher of Tahoe City, CA, daughter Kelly Roscher (Glenway Rauth) of Traverse City, MI, sister Mary Katharine Hartung (Paul) of Jeannette, PA, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Her parents preceded her in death.
The Family would like to thank the staff at Cherry Hill Haven in Traverse City for the loving care and comfort that Carolyn received during her stay.
