Betty Mary Hubbell, age 83, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully Monday, May 15, 2017. She was born in Hazelton, Pennsylvania on September 29, 1933 to John and Mary (Plaskonos) Mashack. She grew up in Minersville, Pennsylvania, graduating from high school in 1951. Soon after, she moved to Michigan. In 1952 she married Kenneth Hubbell of Elk Rapids.
Betty enjoyed a long career as a Waitress at Shield’s Restaurant, Pinestead Reef Restaurant and the Waterfront Convention Center, all in Traverse City, enjoying many special, personal friendships with long-term customers. Later in life Betty worked as a Customer Service Representative at Sears in Traverse City, until her retirement. Betty attended and volunteered at St. Francis Catholic Church and had many interests, including casino outings, bingo, playing cards, birds, flowers and reading.
She was an exceptional mother of 5 children, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved her family. She cared deeply for others, always compassionate and a careful listener. Her family and many friends loved her dearly and we will all miss her immensely.
Betty is survived by her children Susan Stuart, Linda Hubbell, Michael (Cynthia) Hubbell and William (Becky) Hubbell; grandchildren Heather Hockin, Ryan (Mariah) Hockin, Shannon (Bryan) Armstrong, Rachele Hubbell, Branden Hubbell, Katharine (Alexander) Hermann, Anna Hubbell, and Saba Hubbell; great-grandson, Porter Hermann; and siblings Theodore Mashack, Nancy (Phillip) Dayton, Robert (Diane) Mashack, Barbara (Daniel) Schmidt. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Janice Hockin, sons-in-law, Larry Hockin and Terry Stuart; grandson, Nathan Hubbell; brother John Mashack and sister, Irene Zelonis.
A memorial service was at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, in Traverse City, on Thursday, May 25, 2017, 1:00 p.m. with visitation 1 hour prior. A luncheon was held immediately following the service. A private, family burial service was at Oakwood Cemetery in Traverse City. Memorial contributions were made to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Arrangements were entrusted to Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City.
