OBITUARY FOR OGLE, WESLEY JOHN


On Tuesday, June 21, 2022 Wesley John Ogle passed away at the age of 70. Wesley, or “Wes” to family and close friends, was born on April 11, 1952 in New Haven, CT to Wes and Kathleen (Goudy) Ogle. He moved with his parents to Redlands, CA and then to Las Vegas, NV as a young child and where he remained until he turned 18.  

Wes discovered the ocean and surfing, as well as other board sports during many family vacations to California. He became hooked on surfing and skateboarding as a young teen, making his own boards in his father’s garage. He also went on to make a very early version of a snowboard which he used in the mountains of Nevada. He learned auto mechanics very young and started repairing cars. Soon after turning 18, Wes moved to Manhattan Beach, CA to realize his dream of surfing and living the beach lifestyle. He went to work for Windsurfing International, Inc. in the mid to late 1970’s and became an avid sailboard rider and competitor. He introduced sailboarding to his parents and siblings on lakes in Idaho and bays in California. Wesley loved the ocean, and loved his many friends who shared his passion for surfing and ocean sports.

Wes was a lifelong classic car enthusiast and rebuilt several cars in his 20’s and 30’s. His pride was his 1967 Chevy Nova Super Sport which he enjoyed showing at car shows and cruise nights in the beach cities. He was exceptionally talented at rebuilding engines and transmissions. In the late 1980’s, Wes went to work for Cobra Kayaks where he supervised the manufacturing of plastic kayaks. In addition to surfing and sailboarding, Wesley became an avid kayak surfer up and down the California coast. He married his former wife, Lisa, in 1985 whom he met while taking college classes in landscape design. Wes lived in Hawthorne, California until the time of his death.

Anyone who knew Wesley would probably remember his great sense of humor, his love of nature, his love of gardening, his selfless

You are in my mind every day brother! You will be missed every single day. Thank you for teaching me how to ride a skateboard, how to surf, how to ride a sailboard, how to surf a kayak, and how to be a good person by example. I will never ever forget our last moments together.
