Mary Magdalene Silva Pelayo

Mary Magdelene (Silva) Pelayo beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away in her home surrounded by her ohana on April 1, 2011. Mary was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on December 19, 1928, the youngest of 11 siblings. She moved to California in the 1950’s where she met her loving husband of 55 years Alcario “Sonny” Pelayo. Mary was the proud mother of 7 children: Lorraine, Dickey, Mickey, Teddy (Sandy), Allen, Maile (Tui), and Lono (Laurie). She was preceded in death by two of her children Lorraine and Mickey. Mary was an active member of the Ahahui o’ Liliuokalani Hawaiian Civic Club where she taught the members how to play the ukulele. Her greatest joy was in the active participation in her grandchildren’s lives – all 11 of them – Biggie (Vida), Little Mickey, Keoni, Christopher (Brianne), Kalei, Kanani (Christian), Laupepa, Alec, Anuhea, Taimane, Makana – and her 2 great-grand children – Sahm and Cormac Kekoa. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Visitation will be at Halverson, Stone and Myers Mortuary in Torrance, CA on Sunday, April 10, 2011 from 1-4 pm with memorial service starting at 4 pm. Internment will take place at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes on Monday, April 11, 2011 at 10 am.
