1960 - 2015
Kelly Doyle Gottlieb, 55, peacefully passed away at her home on March 29, 2015, surrounded by her family and close friends. She died from colon/liver cancer. Born March 12, 1960 in Inglewood, CA, she was raised in Torrance where she attended Crenshaw Elementary, Magruder Middle, and North Torrance High (’78) schools. After high school she attended Pacific Christian College (Hope University) in Fullerton, where she studied childhood development.
Kelly is survived by her husband, Steve, her son Nathan, her parents Helen and Bob Doyle, and by her brothers, Kevin & Kory Doyle.
After college, Kelly had a few jobs, but her favorite job was when she started working for Mattel Toys in 1993. During her 11 years with them, she first worked in their entertainment department, as an administration assistant and then worked in their legal department, as a paralegal. She really enjoyed being a part of their employee volunteer organization where, for many years, she was very involved with the company’s favorite charity, the Children Affected by AIDS Foundation, with their signature event, Dream Halloween.
Kelly married her husband in May 1993, and six years later they had their only child together in the fall of 1999, where they also made Torrance their home. Once their son was of school age, Kelly was able to volunteer full-time, being very active as a class parent and became very involved with the PTA. Kelly loved volunteering and turned her focus to the Torrance Parent Organization, Torrance Little League, Torrance American Youth Soccer Organization, Torrance Panther Football and the Parent Teachers Associations (PTAs) of Hickory Elementary, Madrona Middle school, and the Torrance Council of PTAs. Kelly's passion for volunteering continued as a leader in every aspect of these organizations. Receiving the prestigious PTA Honorary Service Award (Hickory 2011) and the Continuous Service Award (Madrona 2014).
Kelly was an active leader with DeOceana Chapter of the American Business Women's Association (ABWA) from 1994 to 2004. She received the Outstanding Woman of the Year Award in 1996 and led the chapter to the National Board of the Year Award in 1998. Kelly volunteered on every committee and was President from 1996 thru 1998. Attending local and National conferences and conventions, as well as hosting various fundraising events (afternoon teas, fashion shows, wine tastings, etc.) helping raise money for college scholarships for women.
Kelly loved being dressed up and was known for wearing her “bling” and her high heels.
