Joe Marvin Dawson, 89, passed away at his home in Hawthorne, California, surrounded by his wife and daughter on Monday, January 30, 2023. Joe was born February 6, 1933 in White Bluff, Tennessee to M.A. “Jack” and Nola Belle Dawson. In 1942, they moved from White Bluff, Tennessee to Oliver Springs, Tennessee. He graduated from Oliver Springs High School in 1952. He moved to Hawthorne, California to work for Trans World Airlines at Los Angeles International Airport, where he was employed for 28 years. He was a resident of Hawthorne, California for 57 years. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
He loved Tennessee football, bluegrass music, making an audience laugh, and preaching God’s Word. Most of all, he was a very loving husband and the greatest father a girl could ever ask for.
He was preceded in death by his parents M.A. “Jack” (1971) and Nola Belle (1988) Dawson; his two brothers, Lonnie Ray Dawson (2010) of Coalfield, Tennessee and Paul Davis Dawson (2017) of Clinton, Tennessee. His only sister Jennie Ruth Dawson Huggins now lives in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
Joe is survived by his dedicated wife, Eden Dawson; devoted daughter, Sandra Dawson Canaday; loving sister Jennie Ruth Dawson Huggins; loyal son in law, Tom Canaday and two dandy granddaughters, Leah (7) and Joelle (3) Canaday.
The funeral service was held Monday, February 13, 2023 at Premier Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs, Tennessee. Burial service followed at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. A memorial gathering will take place Sunday, March 19, 2023 at 2pm at the home of his daughter- 1827 252nd St. Lomita, CA 90717, tel. 206-809-4441.
We will remember his life and how he made us laugh, while enjoying some bluegrass music. He is greatly loved and so dearly missed by those close to him.
