She is survived by a brother, Peter Rollins and his wife Susan of Beverly, MA, and her dear nephew, Craig Rollins, his wife Carole, and two nephews, Noah, 9, and Zach, 11, of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, a stepbrother, Jay Bliss and his wife Linda of New Hampshire, as well as many loving friends on both the East and West coasts. She was predeceased by her mother, Marian Moore Baird, and her father Charles Elmer Rollins.
After graduating from Stoneham High School, Joan entered Boston University, but illness forced her to leave. She traveled across the United States, settled in Beverly, MA, and ran her own dog grooming salon for many years.
In 1983 Joan graduated from Salem State College then entered a graduate program at Boston College, where she earned master's degree in clinical psychology. Before relocating to the West Coast, Joan worked for the Massachusetts Department of Social Services as a social worker. In 1990 she began work at the California Department of Children and Family Services, where she rose to the rank of supervisor and where she has many loyal colleagues. Joan was a skilled sailor, musician and enthusiastic golfer.
All are invited to Joan's memorial service at the Rice Mortuary in Torrance on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 10:00 a.m., followed by a reception in the Lighthouse Reception Room. Interment will be at a later date in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden, MA. Donations may be made in Joan's name to www.Caringbridge.com or the Lupus Foundation of America at www.lupus.org.
