Ida Dacus, a 33-year resident of Carson, CA, passed away on Friday, July 23, 2021 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. Born in Jasper, Texas, Ida was 78 when she died. Ida was a proud member of Redondo Beach Center for Spiritual Living, and frequently visited Saint Mark United Methodist Church and West Angeles COGIC, both in Los Angeles.
Education:
Ida graduated High School at J.H. Rowe in Jasper, Texas and attended Prairie View A&M College. She received her Master of Arts from New York University and then became a registered dietitian.
Career highlights:
Ida was a nutritionist and loved working with consumers with developmental disabilities. She often talked about her affection for the children. She thought they were so sweet but misunderstood by many. When she was out in the community and happened to encounter someone with a disability, she had a special way of showing understanding and acceptance. She taught at many seminars and enjoyed every minute of it. She worked with South Central Los Angeles Regional Center (SCLARC), where she met many friends throughout the years.
Personal interests:
Ida had many interests and took much satisfaction in reading newspapers (several) from cover to cover, at least 2 times a week. She would rather read than watch the news to keep abreast of current events. She often criticized politicians and was not afraid to let you know her opinion (smile).
Hobbies:
Ida’s hobby was attending as many functions as she could! If it was interesting, whether a play, a concert, a lecture, a dinner, a fashion show, a sermon, she wanted to be there! She often made 2 or 3 events in one evening!
Passions:
Ida never expressed what she was passionate about, but it was obvious that she was very passionate about family and family ties. She always wanted family to get acquainted with distant relatives because she felt that it was very important.
Ida is survived by her Sisters: Annie Geer & Gloria Dacus of Carson, CA, Bobbie Dacus of Dallas, Tex.; Brother: Samuel Dacus (and Bettye) of Carson, CA; Nieces: LaTonya Dacus and Kathleen Dacus; Nephews: Timothy Dacus and Stacey Dacus; Half-brothers that she loved in Texas: Jimmy Dacus, James Adams and Joe Sells, and many other family members and loved ones. She was preceded in death by Leon (father), Nellie (mother) and Leon Jr. (brother), and can now enjoy being surrounded by them.
As Ida wished, a private gathering of family and clergy has occurred (and will continue to occur). Her wish was that each group of her acquaintances gather, if they so desired, and celebrate in the same manner as they would if she were still present with them.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in her honor, to GBC-Giving Back Corporation, P.O. Box 452201, Los Angeles, CA 90045. Website: www.gbc-givingbackcorporation.com
