Gertrude "Trudy" Wirth, long-time Torrance resident and member of St. Lawrence Martyr Parish, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 17, 2008.
One of six children, she was born in Gilbert Minnesota to William Hogan and Margaret (Cuddihey) Hogan. She was predeceased by her husband, Major Frank X. Wirth, USAF (Ret.) in 1978. She is survived by her daughter, Bridget Wirth Forney; grandson, Andrew Forney; son-in-law, Mark Forney; two sisters-in-law, Sr. Francis Gerald Wirth and Roseann Wirth; as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Her long career as a registered nurse took her literally around the world, from the China-Burma-India Theatre in WWII to Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles and ultimately to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance, where she worked on "2nd Surgical" for 21 years.
Gert's many interests included sewing, gardening, reading mystery novels, playing cribbage and traveling. Most of all, she dedicated her life to service and family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
There will be a memorial mass at the St. Lawrence Martyr convent chapel on Monday, April 28 at 11:00 am.
