Earnest J Moore Sr. was born on January 4, 1932 in Birmingham, Alabama to the parents of Lillie Lee Nesby and George Edward Moore Sr. Earnest was the fifth child of eleven children. He had seven brothers and three sisters. They were a close knit family.
Earnest attended Lewis Elementary School and Parker High School both located in Birmingham. An important time in Earnest’s life was when he accepted the Lord at the tender age of nine years old.
Earnest went on to serve our country in 1953 when he joined the Air Force. Shortly after being discharged, he met and fell in love with Jennie Lee Bogan. They were married in 1958. The couple soon welcomed their only child, a son, Earnest Moore Jr. in 1960. The happy couple was married for 61 years.
Earnest worked for a drugstore and at the Veterans Hospital in Birmingham. Earnest and Jennie made a decision to go west. So they took their son and moved to California for new opportunities and adventures in 1961.
Affectionately known as Mr. Moore, Earnest worked for Boys Super Market, a local grocery store in Los Angeles, for 38 years. Together, Earnest and Jennie worked separate full time jobs while also managing their own cleaning service part-time, for 15 years.
In Los Angeles, he found a new church home to continue his Christian journey and became a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church. Earnest served as an usher for many years until his health began to decline.
Being born into a large family, Earnest could not help but be a big family man. Whenever there was a need, he was willing to help. He and Jennie looked forward to their annual road trip to Alabama every year for family vacation.
Earnest was proceeded in death by his wife, Jennie Lee Moore, his mother, his father, and eight of his siblings. His life would not be the same after Jennie passed. At 91, not used to being alone, he would still joke about searching for a new wife.
Earnest leaves to cherish his memory, his only son Ernie Moore Jr., (Juanita); two sisters Estelle Scott and Helen Barney both of Chicago; two bother-in-laws John Bogan and Revell Bogan; three sisters-in-law, Ida Bogan, Willie Mae Bogan, Minnie Mae Bogan; a special nephew, John Moore Jr. (Rosalyn) and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
