David Harold Hobbs, 84, a long time resident of Torrance passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 13, 2022. He was born in Bismarck, ND on March 30, 1938 to Harold and Laura Hobbs. At 15, he helped make the drive as his family relocated from North Dakota to California. He attended high school at Hawthorne High and college at Humbolt State. He met the love of his life, Patty Shier, and was married in 1964. He spent more than 10 years as a coach and board member at Tordondo Little League. David was a lifetime member of the Carpenter’s Union and retired after 45 years in 2001. He and Patty were members of the local Moose Lodge and particularly enjoyed camping with the Rod and Gun Club. David enjoyed growing zucchini, green beans, and tomatoes in his home garden. He and Patty explored the United States while traveling in their motor home. No one was ever a stranger, only a friend he hadn’t met yet.
David is survived by his wife Patty of 58 years; daughters Cindy (Mike) Detlefsen and Shari Hobbs; his 4 grandchildren Malorie, Jennifer, Janice and David; 2 great-grandchildren Peyton and Olivia; his sister Iris (Tom) Miller. David is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Laura, and his sister Sharon. A celebration of life will be held at 10:00am with reception immediately following at Rice Mortuary, 5310 Torrance Blvd. in Torrance. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society www.cancer.org or the Alzheimer’s Association www.alz.org. He will be greatly missed.
