Carl Austin Rhoads moved to his heavenly home on April 29, 2006. He celebrated his 88th birthday on April 26, 2006. Carl was born in Manheim, PA to Dawson McKinley Rhoads and Kathryn Ruhl Rhoads, the first of 3 sons. He was a veteran of WWII. He married Helen Croft Rhoads on October 17, 1942 in Arlington, VA. Carl and Helen moved to CA during the war and Helen lived in Redondo Beach until he was discharged in 1945. That same year they bought a home on Avenue C and lived there together until Helen passed away in October 2004. Carl retired in the mid 80's after which he and Helen began to travel extensively. They visited many countries and continents, but their favorite was Spain, which they traveled to seven times. Carl was an avid landscaper and builder. His backyard looked like a park and he took great pride in his home. He is survived by his loving daughter Ann and her husband Fred of Aliso Viejo, CA. his granddaughter Michelle Sullivan and her husband Eric, of Orange, CA and three great granddaughters, Daphne, Gretta and Roxanne. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, May 5, 2006 at the Rice Mortuary in Torrance. A reception will follow at the Lighthouse reception room at the mortuary, Interment will follow at Inglewood Park Cemetery in Inglewood, CA.
