
Bruce Sopher, 91, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather went to be with the Lord March 3, 2011. Bruce was a longtime Torrance resident. He was born August 26, 1919 in Noblesville, Indiana, raised in Los Angeles and served his country in the Army Air Corp during WWII in the Philippines. He was employed as a mechanical engineer at Farr Co. in El Segundo for 38 years. After retiring from Farr Co. he worked for National Car Rental at LAX for 20 years. He was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Redondo Beach from the early 1960's where he had served as an Elder, Deacon and High School Advisor. He was an avid golfer and golfed well into his 80's. He was a regular at Snax in Torrance.
He is survived by his wife, Jane; daughters, Gail Mincey of Santa Clara County, California and Karen Jaworski (Robert) of Toledo, Spain; grandchildren Jeffrey Mincey (Brandi), Kristen Heinrichs (Bradley), Jonathan Jaworski, and Timothy Jaworski, and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law Douglas Mincey.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Redondo Beach on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 11am. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 310 Avenue D, Redondo Beach, CA or to Salvation Army Torrance Adult Day Care.
