A 42 year resident of the South Bay, she passed away on Good Friday, March 29, 2002, in Torrance, surrounded by her children. Born February 13, 1917 in Lucy, Tennessee to Martin Ives and Marie Neely Grugett. She was raised in Kentucky with her brother George Robert Grugett and many other family members. She was married to Robert John Nolan in 1941 and lived in Janesville and Beloit, Wisconsin, where their five children were born. After moving to the South Bay she worked as an answering service manager for many years. Billie's favorite job was working for the City of Redondo Beach. Known as ''the voice of Redondo Beach'' she answered all the calls for the City Hall. She retired from the City in 1983.
Billie is survived by her son, Robert Thomas ''Tom'' Nolan and wife Candy of Torrance, CA; daughters, Rebecca Mary ''Becky'' Cool and husband Tays of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA; and Jennifer Marie ''Jenny'' English-Valero and husband Leonard of Clovis, CA; grandchildren Dana Flaherty and husband Glenn; Sara Nolan; Crystal English-Doty and husband Brandon; Dustin ''Dusty'' Valero; and one great-grandchild, David James ''DJ'' Flaherty.
A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2002, 11:00AM., at the First Baptist Church, Redondo Beach, CA. A private inurnment will be held at Pacific Crest Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bille Nolan Memorial fund at Redondo Beach First Baptist Church, 100 N. Pacific Coast Hwy., Redondo Beach, CA 90277.
