November 7, 1952 - September 26, 2011
Barby, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and aunt passed away unexpectedly while fighting a gallant battle with kidney disease. Born at Wright Patterson AFB, in Dayton, Ohio to Dr. Frederic W. Hartwig, USAF (deceased) and Mariam "Mimi" Hartwig Miller, Barby was an accomplished equestrian who loved all animals, especially horses. After graduating with Miraleste High School's first graduating class in 1970, she earned a degree in Journalism from the University of Southern California in 1974 while a member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. At USC, Barby met and later married Jim Graham, with whom she had two sons, James and Jeff. In 1985, Barby married her soul mate Mark Hereford and for the past 26 years they have shared "a marriage made in heaven." While raising the boys, Barby worked at the Daily Breeze and the Yellow Pages living the majority of her life in Rancho Palos Verdes. Barby and Mark have traveled extensively over the past 15 years, often to visit James and Jeff in their adventures around the world. Barby loved new cultures, different people, and exotic food, although she loved a beach in Hawaii the most.Barby is survived by her husband, Mark H. Hereford; two sons James K. Graham (Dr. Heather Sexton Graham) and Jeffrey H. Graham; her mother Mariam Hartwig Miller (Dr. Lloyd O. Miller); her sister Betsy Hartwig Saltzman (David Saltzman); nephew and niece Andrew and Alexandra Saltzman. Barby will be remembered for her sense of humor, keen intelligence, and deep love for her family. It is a tragic loss that Barby only graced this world for 58 short years. Memorial Services will be held at Christ Episcopal Church in Redondo Beach on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Catalina Island Conservancy, P.O.
