Adolfo Hernandez, a seventy-one year resident of Los Angeles, passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 in Torrance, CA. Born in Mesa, AZ to Refugio and Nicolas Hernandez, Adolfo was the third of five children. He moved with his family to Los Angeles in 1939 where he attended Los Angeles public schools. After proudly serving in the U.S. Army during WWII, he learned the trade of electrician and, during the course of his career, worked on the construction of many highly recognizable edifices in the Los Angeles area such as the Forum, the Hollywood Race Track and The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, to name just a few.
Adolfo married his sweetheart, Bertha Mondragon, in February 1949 and they commenced to rear a family of seven boys and five girls. Adolfo and Bertha have been devoted parishioners of Ascension Catholic Church in Los Angeles for over fifty-seven years. All twelve of their children received a religious education at Ascension Catholic School. Adolfo had recently celebrated his eighty-sixth birthday on July 11th.
Adolfo is survived by his loving and devoted wife of sixty-one years, Bertha Hernandez; Sons: Al, Danny, David, Pete, Mike, Jay and Rick (Phoenix) Hernandez; Daughters: Mary Dimmick, Lupi Martinez, Doris Tello, Vickie Bagley and Rita Hernandez; twenty-seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicolas and Refugio Hernandez; brothers, Leonard and Gilbert and sisters, Alice and Nellie.
A gathering of family & friends will be held at McCormick's Inglewood Mortuary on Monday, August 23, 2010 from 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM. The Service will be held in the Chapel at the Inglewood Mortuary on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at 11:00 AM. A Reception will follow in Inglewood's Lighthouse Reception Room from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Interment will follow at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside.
