Young Joe Chung passed away at the age of 81 in the Centenary Hospital in Scarborough, Ontario.
He was born in Namhae, Korea as the eldest son of Jeong Jae-Hong and Aguiyeop. He graduated from Busan Commercial High School and joined Joseon Textile Co. LTD in 1961. He worked at Daegu Daehansaengsa (Raw Silk) Co and attended the English Literature Department of the College of Liberal Arts and Science at Kyungook National University. In 1969 he married Park An-Ja and immigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1974, where Young Joe worked as a real estate agent and was the founding director of the Canadian Wheat (Milal) Mission, a non-profit organization that specializes in supporting people with special needs. He worked as Director of Administration for Korean Department at the Canadian Christian College in Whitby, Ontario and served as a Deacon at the Toronto Hope Presbyterian Church.
Young Joe loved fishing, watching boxing and soccer and enjoyed helping newly immigrated members of the Korean community settle into Canada.
Young Joe is survived by his sons, Alexander, Raymond and Kenny, daughter in laws, Elisa and Kalyani, and grandchildren Toby, Neelan, Cohen, Jayan and Evangeline.
A visitation for Young will be held Saturday, November 30, 2024 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Kane-Jerrett Funeral Homes, 6191 Yonge Street, Toronto. A funeral service will occur Saturday, November 30, 2024 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM, 6191 Yonge Street, Toronto. A committal service will occur Saturday, November 30, 2024 at 12:15 PM at Beechwood Cemetery, 7241 Jane St, Vaughan, ON L4K 1A7.
