It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that the family of William (Bill) Lytle announce his passing on April 20, 2022 at the age of 92.
Bill leaves a huge hole in the hearts of his family and friends who were always entertained by his many stories and warm smile.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Elaine who stole his heart at the tender age of 15. Bill and Elaine were blessed with four beautiful children, Diane (Steve), Valerie, Willie/Chris (Kathy) and Bob (Sue), and a bonus son Bill Brown (Michele). He was the beloved and proud Grampa to Brittany, Michael, Brandon, Rhiannon (Steve), Robert, Ayden, and Shannon and Great Grampa to Miles William. Bill was the big brother to Dick (Cathy), John (Debbie), and Jim (Judi).
Watching sports in person and on tv was one of Bills favorite pastimes. Bill loved everything sports. He was quite competitive and loved being active. His years were filled with having fun playing badminton, tennis, golf, curling, swimming and sailing. If he wasn't playing it, he was watching it, and if he wasn't watching it, he was teaching it. Bill passed his love of sports along to his children and grandchildren, he took great pride in watching them swing a club, score a goal, make a save or win a sailing race. Bill was a die hard fan to his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs, Blue Jays, Raptors, and Argos; a true and loyal fan rarely missing a game.
Bill had a passion for food. Eating it and cooking it. Whether it was a dinner for two or a feast for family and friends. He loved to get creative by trying an obscure recipe or a new restaurant. Bill loved his kitchen and was the king of the BBQ.
Even in retirement Bill had to stay active. He enjoyed volunteering with the community police, the Ontario Senior Games and giving his talks on scams against seniors.
Bill loved his cottage life. It was his Happy Place! For over 65 years Wood Lake brought together all the people he loved most in this world, his family and friends. Everyone was always welcome at his "Lytle Peace of Heaven".
It's hard to sum up a man like Bill Lytle in just a few words, (and for those who knew him well, knew that he was never a man of few words). Bill packed so much into his 92 years! He was passionate about so many things in his life. He worked hard and played hard. He was a people person. If he was your friend, you knew you had a friend for life. If he was your father in law, he loved you as one of his own. Bills grandchildren adored him, and he adored them. His children looked up to him, and he was proud of his children. Bill married the girl of his dreams Elaine, and together they built their life surrounded by everyone and everything they love. Bill was truly one of a kind.
How lucky are we to have had someone so very special in our lives that make saying goodbye so hard!
Visitation will be on Tuesday May 3rd from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society, The Hospital for Sick Kids or Sunnybrook Hospital would be appreciated.
