December 28, 1961 — April 7, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Stewart James Craig, who left us peacefully on April 7, 2025, at the age of 63. Stewart was a one-of-a-kind husband, devoted father, cherished brother, and loyal friend. His vibrant spirit and whimsical nature touched the lives of all who knew him, and his memory will forever remain in our hearts.
Born on December 28, 1961, Stewart was the youngest son of Isabel and Robert Craig, who preceded him in death. He shared nearly 29 resilient and love-filled years with his wife and best friend, Gaylyn—affectionately known as “Pooh.” Together, they built a life full of laughter, unforgettable moments, and countless memories—some of which could easily have made for a hit reality show.
Stewart was a man of wit, warmth, and unwavering conviction. Known for his quick sense of humor and love of spirited conversation, he never hesitated to speak his mind. His passionate opinions often sparked lively debates—and plenty of laughter—among friends and family. A true social butterfly, Stewart could strike up a conversation with just about anyone, and he did, often.
Beneath his bold personality was a deeply compassionate soul, fiercely loyal and endlessly devoted to those he loved.
Stewart is survived by his loving wife, Gaylyn; his good-natured son, Brandon; his siblings, Linda and Bobby; his parents-in-law, Shirley and Sing Chen; sisters-in-law, Marlene and Shirline; brothers-in-law, Victor and Gerry; and his cherished nephew, Gatsby. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Kiki, and his cats, Ted, Darryl, and Mortimer—faithful companions who brought him daily joy and comfort.
The last decade of Stewart’s life brought unimaginable challenges after an accident left him a quadriplegic. Yet even in the face of overwhelming adversity, his indomitable spirit never wavered. He met each day with courage, optimism, and a steadfast belief that he would one day walk again. Though his battle with diabetes ultimately claimed his life, it never defined it. Stewart wished to be remembered not for his hardships, but for the love he shared, the laughter he sparked, and the strength he carried.
He had a flair for the quirky and the unforgettable. Rarely seen without one of his signature hats, Stewart’s playful style was unmistakable. He had a passion for collecting unusual antiques—those odd little treasures that filled his home with personality and charm. And his mind? A jukebox of music and random facts, overflowing with lyrics, melodies, and trivia from every era. Whether it was a tune, a fun fact, or a strange bit of history, Stewart was always ready to share something interesting—or at least amusing.
The Craig family extends their deepest gratitude to the Bellwoods Centre for Community Living, Paramed, Circle of Care, and Lyndhurst Centre for their unwavering support throughout Stewart’s journey. Special thanks to the personal support workers, nurses, and doctors whose care and compassion made a lasting impact.
In accordance with Stewart’s wishes, he will be cremated. True to his nature, he didn’t want a big fuss. He simply loved good conversation, great music, and dessert—especially dessert. A Celebration of Life will be held in his honour, bringing together family and friends to share stories, laughter, and memories.
Though Stewart may no longer be with us, his legacy of love, resilience, and joy lives on in everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed—and never forgotten.
