I remember Sheila as a volunteer who helped plan a conference on child welfare in Canada in 1991. Then retired from her career as a Children's Aid Society social worker, she was a tremendous resource and invaluable to the conference organizer (and to me, the program/admin assistant). In her dedication in the months leading up to that conference, Sheila was an inspiring example of the professional who was willing to get back in the saddle to help others. R.I.P.

Auntie Sheila was so generous to us nephews and nieces and did want to know about how everyone was doing. I remember her smile and great conversations when I visited her a long time ago. Custodian of many details of family history going back through the family tree. Wonderful, strong, heartwarming, direct woman. May you rest in peace.

Rest in peace Sheila - you lived far away, but were always interested in what your nephews and nieces were all doing and you and I had a fair bit in common through our work.  Thanks too for your generosity.  Auntie Sheila was another in what I suspect is a long line of 'exacting and sometimes formidable' MacDermotts! Sheila, my Godmother, has always been an important figure in my life and these last few years have been difficult watching her decline though it has been very bravely borne. Her resilience has been remarkable. I am glad that she has now found peace. I have many memories over the years ago that will remain with me for ever, of her character, caring and fun though she could be stern too! She will be truly missed! Keith

Farewell to my sister Sheila  always a very kind and generous Aunt to all her naphews and nieces and highly thought of by the Childrens foundation. May she rest in peace.

I met Sheila in 1980 when I joined Toronto CAS as a  brand new supervisor at North Branch. Soon after,  it felt like she had taken me under her wing though I was never certain of that because she wouldn't have said so. I would drop in to see her every time I was at 33 Charles and we would have conversations that always stayed with me. Occasionally she would treat me to a story about her travels or a book she had just read. I bought each book she recommended.
 Above all I will always remember Sheila as inquisitive, immensely intelligent, exacting, sometimes formidable and even intimidating. Above all I will never forget her abiding professionalism and her insistence upon excellence which is what she felt we owed our kids and families.

What a privilege.
