In his seventy-ninth year at the Kensington Hospice. Dearest son of the late Ashraf Sami el Baroudi and Marcia Alysoune (Davidson) Baroudi.
Predeceased in 2007 by his beloved wife and best friend Gail Reigh (Sullivan) el Baroudi of forty-eight years.
Cherished father of Mona el Baroudi-Mackenzie (Gordon), Helen Thomson (Christopher), Mark el Baroudi (Shelley Woloski), Susanne Carsley (Louis), and Laura el Baroudi. Devoted grandfather of Alexa Ray Thomson, Cole Thomson, Devon Thomson, Timothy Carsley, Madeleine el Baroudi, Jacqueline Mackenzie, Nicola Carsley, Griffin el Baroudi, and Mercedes Mackenzie.
Sadly missed by his sister Nelly Fergusson (Kira and Andrew) and his brother-in-law Dennis Sullivan (Aileen; Carey and Janine); his sister-in-law Sandra Sullivan (Patrick; Todd, Sheena, Tammy and Scott). Remembered with fondness and friendship by his cousins Charlotte Graham (Amanda,Victoria and Jeremy).
Sandy was born in Cairo Egypt and completed his secondary schooling at Victoria College in Alexandria, Egypt. He immigrated to the United States where he received his BSc at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston. He immigrated to Canada in 1958, and married in 1959. He resided all of his married life in Canada.
Sandy received his Master of Science at the University of Toronto in 1962. In 1964 a PhD in Aeronautical Engineering was conferred on him. While working towards his degrees, he was simultaneously employed by De Havilland Aircraft of Canada, first as an Engineer, then Project Engineer for the Twin Otter, and finally as Assistant Director of Planning. In 1968 he was made Assistant General Manager of Spar Aeronautics.
From 1972 to 1980, Sandy transferred his skills to the mining and power industry first working as a Vice President at Brinco Churchill Falls and then as President and General Manager for Uranerz Exploration and Mining Canada.
In 1980, Sandy co-founded Advisory Services in Corporate Planning as Senior Partner. Advisory Services worked with the Ontario Government to develop Ontario Economic Growth Action plans used by Ontario municipalities. Advisory Services created and implemented a wide range of economic development plans for communities across Ontario.
Sandy was a passionate, jovial and generous man, with a special place in his heart for children; Sandy considered his family of five children his most important accomplishment. He loved and received great joy from his nine grandchildren. Sandy was a good manager who was particularly supportive of those that worked with him, assisting them in their career paths and supporting their personal development. He loved dogs, and his golden lab Holly was a light in his life, a source of much personal happiness and the centre of his daily life in his final years. Sandy and Holly will be sadly missed as a fixture of daily life in the Heath Street community that he loved so much.
Sandy was uncomplaining and encouraging to those around him as he faced a difficult and debilitating challenge over the last three years.
A Funeral Mass will be held at BLESSED SACRAMENT CHURCH (Yonge Street South of Lawrence Avenue) at 11 AM on Saturday, October 19th. 2013. A reception to follow immediately afterwards.
