The family wishes to extend their deep thanks to the staff at the Seniors Health Centre for their compassionate care.
Connie is survived by her son Roy (Cindy), her stepdaughter Mary (Mike), her grandchildren Roy Jr (Trish), Luke, Brian (Xin), Peter (Sharla), and Richard (Mike) and Victoria. She will be deeply missed by her great-grandchildren Brooklyn, Lincoln, Lennon, Jaimeson, Sophie, and Thomas.
Connie was a nurse with the VON for 35 years and an active volunteer at Sunnybrook Hospital and with PFLAG. Next to her love for her son and family and the light of her life, Chester, her heart and energy were most evident during her irrepressible ministry at Fairlawn Avenue United Church.
Over the years, if there was a Fairlawn committee, Connie was probably either on it or leading it. She was always the first to step up and volunteer! She served as a church elder for communion, was active on the Visitation committee, she was co-chair of the UCW, a keen participant on the Affirm Committee, enthusiastic team member with the Boarding House Ministry, a creative transportation coordinator and volunteer driver for church elders, not to mention delicious treat provider to the Senior Choir each Christmas prior to their advent services. And these are just a few of her volunteer efforts. Then there was the Senior Committee, which, under her leadership, gave birth to the unique outreach ministry of the Fairlawn Neighbourhood Centre that imprinted the Fairlawn community for over 14 years. Her unwavering support of the Centre’s mission and staff helped make great programs, meaningful outreach and memorable events happen.
Connie had a passion for travel and in later life escaped on numerous continental cruises with friends as well as Canadian tours closer to home. She also had a great love of animals - especially certain golden retrievers and Schnauzers😊
She was a resilient and tenacious woman-- beautiful, gracious, warm, and loving inside and out. She was gift to all that knew her. Connie will be dearly missed.
A Celebration of Connie’s Life will be held at Fairlawn United Church in the New Year. We hope you will join us once a date is confirmed and published. Interment of her urn will take place in the spring in Grimsby to allow her devoted and loving family from the west coast to attend.
In lieu of flowers, should you wish to make a donation in Connie’s memory, you can do so to the Children’s Wish Foundation or the Fairlawn Avenue United Church.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.kanejerrettnorthyork.ca for the Buck family.
