The Chipman Family is deeply saddened to announce the loss of their mother Rhoda Chipman.
Rhoda passed away peacefully at the age of 98 on Monday, April 14th at her Bendale Acres Retirement Home in Scarborough, Ontario.
Rhoda was predeceased by her husband Bill, her son Ron and grandson Jason. As well as her parents Richard and Emily Hiscock, sisters Julia (Harold) Bussey, Dorothy (Ralph) Noel, and her brother Ronald (Barbara) Hiscock and brother in law Everette Lynch.
She was a proud and loving mother to her sons, William ( Christine), John (Rose) and Edward (Darlene) and daughter in law Susan Chipman and Debbie Chipman-Marenguer.
Loving Nanna to Ronnie, James, Corrie, Paula, Matthew and great grandmother to 16 great grandchildren.
She leaves behind her sister Pauline Lynch whom she was very close to as well as many nieces, nephews and close friends.
Rhoda was born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and grew up in Flatrock, Newfoundland. She met the love of her life Bill in Corner Brook Newfoundland where she was working as a nurse. Rhoda also worked in St. John’s, Newfoundland and she continued to work in the medical field all of her life caring for the sick and the elderly until she retired. She was a very caring person and loved to take care of others.
Rhoda also loved to have company over and on many occasions a small crowd, she was always welcoming and a great cook, she loved cooking up a feast for everyone to enjoy! You always felt welcomed in Rhoda’s home.
Rhoda also loved to play a good hand of Euchre in her earlier years and would often reminisce about the good old days. She enjoyed telling her stories of growing up in Newfoundland and how she later moved to Toronto where she lived with her husband and four sons. She lived in Toronto for over 75 years and enjoyed taking care of her family and working as a nurse.
Throughout her 98 years she enjoyed many good times with her family and friends, she always had a way of making us laugh and these are the memories that will never be forgotten.
She held a very special place in her heart for her family, her sons, daughter in laws and grandchildren. They were the love of her life and she always held them very close to her heart.
Rhoda will be deeply missed and her memory will forever live on in all those who loved her.
Rest in peace mom, we will always love you.
A visitation for Rhoda will be held Saturday, April 19, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Jerrett Funeral Homes, 660 Kennedy Road, Toronto, ON M1K2B5. A funeral service will occur Saturday, April 19, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, 660 Kennedy Road, Toronto, ON M1K2B5.
A burial will occur Saturday, April 19, 2025 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at Pine hills Cemetery, 625 Birchmount Road, Toronto ON M1K 1R1
Everyone is invited to Al Mac’s Bar & Grill after the service.
