On January 28th 2015, Reg Gray went to be with our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Beloved husband of the late Florence Gray, loving father of Glennice (Ken) Bonnar, Lois (Ian) Howes, Laurie (James) Read and Nelson (Ruth) Gray, he will also be lovingly remembered by his ten grandchildren: Jonathan and Timothy (Deb) Bonnar; Julie (Dave) Ellis and Matthew Howes; Jeremy Read, Rebecca (Kevin) Wood, and Philip (Aimee Patterson) Read; Spencer, Carolyn and Christopher Gray. He was “Grandpa”/ “Papa”/ “Poppa” to his 10 precious grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren: Pieter, Kaatje, Tiernan and Zéphyrine Bonnar; Chelsea and Hayley Ellis; Ceanray Harris-Read, Amaya and Zeke Wood and Julian and Theodore Read. Reg was predeceased by siblings Arthur, Dorothy (Hughes), Fred and Wallace Gray, and will be greatly missed by brothers George and Bernard and extended family.
He found meaning through his faith, his Salvation Army church home, his family and business ventures, which included working for Thomson Groceries, founding Reg Gray Fine Foods and Gray’s Hardware Limited, and working diligently for over 25 years in his retail hardware store. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces from 1941-1945. In “retirement” he built a new cottage and then worked at Westburne Plumbing for 10 years. Playing in brass bands for over 60 years enriched his life, along with travel, especially with Florence. Enjoying both work and pleasure at the cottages on Gunter and Cashel Lakes were a significant part of his life from the age of 12.
The family wishes to extend gratitude to the staff of Chartwell Guildwood Residence, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre Veteran’s wing, family members and friends, for expressed kindness to Dad and his family. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Jerrett Funeral Homes, 660 Kennedy Road, on Saturday, February 7, 2015 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Reg's life and Promotion to Glory will be celebrated at The Salvation Army Citadel Corps, 2021 Lawrence Ave. East on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Salvation Army Scarborough Citadel Corps.
