Whenever someone in our family speaks of Great Aunt Olga, it's to say that she had a sweet and caring heart. She took the time to knit my sister and I beautiful clothing when we were children and we still have them – they will always be precious keepsakes to us. Our deepest condolences to all of her loved ones. She will be greatly missed.

What to say about Nanny? Definitely one of a kind.  I can pretty much guarantee that most people don’t have a Grandmother that has been banned from a casino for punching a lady because “she stole me winnings”. All kidding aside, she has a had a part in raising all of her grandchildren at some points in our lives, teaching us good and bad things. She had a wicked tongue and a dark sense humour which has been bestowed on many of us. She was strong and stubborn and did things HER way regardless of repercussions. I have so many memories of her but one of my favourites is when I introduced her to my wife many years ago at our annual Christmas party, she told my wife that I was her first, oldest and favourite grand child, while 3 older cousins and 2 younger ones were there with me. Now, I know she knew I wasn’t the oldest, I just think it’s because I would slip her Gin and she really loved me for it. I’m happy that I have such good memories of her and was able to spend so much time with her. Especially that my children got to enjoy her too. I’m sad that I’ll never get hear her say “my son…” and tell me a story or make me laugh and shake my head again. But no one is really gone if we carry on with memories and stories about them. I’m sure we’ll be telling Nanny stories when we’re old too. Love you Nanny

There are so many memories of Nanny, some very wholesome like her teaching me to knit as a child. Some not so wholesome memories, because Nanny is a bad ass and looked after all of us crazy kids summer after summer. 

But I think the most appropriate memory is also one of my more recent ones, and one I will remember for the rest of my life as I watch my own family grow. 

At uncle Alex‘s house where we gathered for a family reunion, I saw Nanny sitting back quietly staring off. I asked her if everything was all right, as she looked distant. 
“I made this. All of this is because of me.” Was her reply.  

There was roughly 60 people in attendance, not even the entire family. She was so proud. Nothing was more important to her and her family. She was in awe of her legacy. 

Rest In Peace Nanny. You live on.
