Father in law, although you are joining mom in law in heaven you both are always in our hearts. 

I would like to thank you for allowing me to marry Queeny. She is an excellent wife and great mother to our children.

I know you are very proud of Queen’s many accomplishments. She has told me many a time how you never discouraged her from pursuing a university degree during a time of great difficulty. She was such a diligent student; winning the gold medal and awards at her high school, a full four year scholarship, working two jobs to support herself while still managing to graduate with honours. 

I knew Queeny when she was in University and I can attest to her financial difficulties throughout that period. She was always thankful for your moral support. Having a university education has greatly changed her life and given her many opportunities she otherwise could not have. 

As a Charted Accountant and Certified Public Accountant, Queeny’s hard work allows for our family to enjoy an enriched life and for our children to attend post secondary education.

I hope our children’s dedications reached you in heaven. Mackenzie worked very hard on his portrait of you and Veronica put all her love into the eulogy.


It is the third weekend of May currently and pickerel season is open tonight. I can remember the many times we went fishing together during pickerel season openings up in Hastings; the two hour drive up in the dark and waiting for the right moment at midnight to drop our lines. There was one time we fished until dawn. 

Do you remember the times we traveled to Dorset for small mouth bass, Peterborough for large and small mouth bass, Georgian Bay for pike, catfish and dogfish? Not to forget the smelt from Lake Simcoe. I think our best trip was staying overnight in Bethany where we towed my boat to Chemong Lake the next dawn. The one hour of non-stop fishing there, we pulled in over a hundred fish. That was good fishing.

These last few days, I also find myself reminiscing about the vacations and trips we took together. Whenever we stopped at a hotel during these many trips, you would always enjoy a good swim and a nice dip in the whirlpool. Do you remember the Blue Ridge Mountains where the clouds crossed our path? There we would pick the sweetest fresh peaches from the trees on the mountain side. We would count the various wildlife together, the deer, moose, raccoons, foxes, porcupines, skunk and the occasional bear. We also saw falcon, turkey eagle and many other colourful birds. Queeny knew you liked birdsong and bought you a tape of wild birds singing.

You and mom loved fishing too. We used to get up around 2 am and drive to the McDonald’s near Barrie for breakfast. Once, we were so early that we had to wait for them to change the menu. I recall your smile whenever you caught a fish, whether big or small, and mom would help you unhook it. I also remember the time mom showed me a large straightened hook and asked, “how big could the fish that got away be?” I told her it must have been the size of Jaws! Some of my fishing buddies still remember how you could fish without a fishing rod.

I also remember how happily you smiled whenever we took you out to dinner. Our family and Albert’s family have been celebrating your birthday for as long as my children can remember. We would always enjoy the dish “Buddha Jumps Over the Wall” and you always loved the Chicken with Cashew. I still have videos of some of those dinners. Queeny and I will be watching them with our children to see your smiling face again.

Veronica is sad that she will not be able enjoy these dinners with you anymore. I know she misses you, she used to call you every week from University to make sure you were alright. 

There are many others who miss you, the staff at the restaurant we always went to has told your “morning tea” friends of your passing. I will thank them for having kept you company those many mornings.

Dearest Dad,

I would like to express my sincerest appreciation for all that you have given to me.  Despite the many difficulties we faced as a family, you never once bowed your head to the strain.  My heart aches whenever I think of the hardships you and Mom faced in New York.  The only relief I have is knowing that you knew I loved you even when I did not say the words.  Whenever you told me, "Daughter, I know you love me dearly", you made me very happy. 

I want to thank you for paying thousands to save my life when I was very ill at three months old.   I have always known that you did not regret of spending that money.   I have always worked hard to be someone you would be proud to have as your youngest daughter.   Every time you told me that you were glad you did not give me away, I knew I was successful. 

Thank you for never discouraging me from continuing my education and finishing university.   Although there were many times where you could not stand up for me, I know the difficulties you had.  I want to express my love and gratitude for you and all that you have done for me.   As Veronica has said,  "Without you, we would not be who we are today."

Mom and Dad, please do not worry about us anymore.

I remember very well how you helped me while I was studying in the States.  You allowed me to live with you and the cousins in Queens. 

We remember very well how you looked after and tolerated my father. You had been a great brother and a thoughtful companion to my dad.

We remember every time we were on the phone, you expressed concerns about Joyce and Keith. With your blessing, Joyce is now capable of supporting her own living; Keith is going to be a college graduate this summer. 

We were told by dad how you managed to went through your difficult times. 
We admire your courage to take part in medical testing. Your positive attitude towards life had been and will be our role model.  

Your acts and ideals continue to inspire us. 

We love you and we always remember you.
