Maria passed away peacefully on the morning of Monday August 12, 2024 at Humber River Hospital at the age of 94. Maria was predeceased by her husband Tarcisio Viola in 2015. Maria leaves behind her sons Carlo and Mark (Lili) and her daughter Sonya, her grandchildren Aaron (Annie), Jordan (Alessandra), Sarah, Matthew, James, her great grandchildren Aidan and Rose, and her remaining living siblings, brother Luciano and sister Gilda (Arnaldo), nephews Loris and Andrea, and niece Sabrina.
Maria was born in Bonzicco Udine Italy on October 9, 1929 to Rita Coloso and Antonio Bertolissio. She and her husband Tarcisio immigrated to Canada in the early 1950s. They befriended other Friulan and Italian immigrants to form a tightly knit community. Maria worked for many years in the hospitality industry. But her greatest mission was to care for her family. Maria was a strong woman who gave her all to those she loved.
The last few years of Maria’s life were marked with health challenges, but she faced it all with courage and determination. A special thank you is extended to the staff at Humber River Hospital who took care of her and who made her final transition as comfortable as could be with gentleness and compassion.
As per Maria’s wishes, a closed casket visitation will be held at Delmoro Funeral Home located at 61 Beverley Hills Drive M3L 1A2 on Thursday August 15 between 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. The funeral service will be held on Friday August 16 at ST Philip Neri Catholic Church at 2100 Jane Street M3M 1A1 from 10-10:45 am followed by the entombment at Beechwood Cemetery located at 7241 Jane Street L4K 1A7
